Wrapped around the eastern side of the Arabian Peninsula is the Sultanate of Oman. Oman has been inhabited for over 6,000 years and because of its strategic location on the Arabian Peninsula, it has been influenced by many other ancient cultures over the millennia. It is also the land of frankincense that in biblical times was a commodity more precious than gold.

Beyond its spectacular scenery, Oman is an historical treasure trove. Across the country are many forts, strongholds and watch towers that have withstood marauders and invaders for centuries. Extensive walls surround some of the forts while others are famous for their highly decorative interiors. The capital, Muscat, is full of fascinating museums, forts, palaces and mosques. Built on the sea, its harbor and waterfront Corniche form the very heart of the city. The souks (markets) are an Aladdin’s cave of khanjars (traditional silver daggers), coffeepots, frankincense, silver and gold jewelry, camel saddles, hand woven textiles, carpets, and baskets. Oman is a nation waiting to be discovered.
