Jerusalem is Israel’s historic, religious and emotional heart, and during this 10-day tour through the country, you will be given an in-depth tour of both the old and the new sectors of the city; from the Wailing Wall to the Shrine of the Book where the Dead Sea Scrolls are housed to the miniature model of Jerusalem as it was during the second temple period, are just a few of its many highlights.  But before concentrating on Jerusalem, you’ll see so many other aspects of the Israel’s past.  At Caesarea, the capital city of Judea in Roman times, see the excavations that have yielded centuries’ old treasures, including a Crusader City, the Roman Port, an Aqueduct and Amphitheatre.  In beautiful Haifa visit the Baha’i Shrine with its exquisite golden domes.

Moving inland, the biblical past unfolds as you stand on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Tour Nazareth’s s Church of the Annunciation where many Christians believe the Virgin Mary met the Archangel Gabriel.  Float in the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, hear at the dramatic story of Masada where, in 73 AD, the Zealots fought their final battle against the Romans before committing mass suicide, and, experience the communal life while spending the night on a Kibbutz.  With free time built in to explore both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on your own, you
will come away with a collection of memories of this remarkable part of the Middle East.

+ - Day 3 Tel Aviv › Caesarea › Haifa

Drive along the coastal plain to Caesarea, capital of Judea under the Romans.  See the excavations of the Crusader city and the roman port, aqueduct and the amphitheater that has been resorted to its former glory as a concert venue.  Proceed to Megiddo, identified as the site of Armageddon, visit the archaeological excavations including the well preserved water supply system.  Continue to Daliat El Carmel, a Druze village and enjoy a late lunch (own account).  Proceed via Mount Carmel to Hafia for a panoramic view of the Hafia bay and the Golden domed Bahai shrine and gardens.

+ - Day 4 Haifa › Golan Heights

Drive to Safed, the center of Jewish mysticism, where you will visit the ancient synagogues and the artists’ colony.  Continue to the Golan Heights to see the former Syrian bunkers, Kuneitra and the new Israeli town of Katzrin.  Stop at the Golan winery for a tour and wine tasting.  Proceed to Kessem Hagolan, a multimedia presentation of the area and its history.

+ - Day 5 Golan Heights › Sea of Galilee › Nazareth › Jerusalem

After breakfast tour the ancient city of Tiberias, before visiting the ruins of the synagogue and octagonal church of St. Peter in Capernaum. Then, continue on to Nazareth to see the Church of the Annunciation. At Beit Alpha, view the remains of an ancient synagogue with is mosaic floor depicting the zodiac. Arrive at the end of the day in Jerusalem for a 5-night stay.

+ - Day 6 Jerusalem

On Mt. Zion this morning, view the site of King David’s tomb and the Room of the Last Supper. Then enter Jerusalem’s walled city, walking through the Jewish Quarter to the Western Wall. Next visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, then, enjoy panoramic views from Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives. Later travel to Bethlehem to see Rachel’s tomb and the Church of the Nativity before returning to Jerusalem.

Today’s tour of Jerusalem’s new city includes a visit to the Hadassah Medical Center to view its ornate Chagall stained glass windows, the moving Holocaust memorial of Yad Vashem, and the fascinating Dead Sea Scrolls housed in the Shrine of the Book. In the afternoon, visit the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament Buildings and the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University.

+ - Day 8 Jerusalem › Massada › Dead Sea › Jerusalem

This morning drive through the beautiful Judean desert passing the Dead Sea en route to Masada. First stop is at Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered before arriving at Masada.  Here, take a cable car up to the ancient fortress and hear about its dramatic history. Before returning to Jerusalem, there will be a chance to float in the Dead Sea (time permitting).
