Drive along the coastal plain to Caesarea, capital of Judea under the Romans. See the excavations of the Crusader city and the roman port, aqueduct and the amphitheater that has been resorted to its former glory as a concert venue. Proceed to Megiddo, identified as the site of Armageddon, visit the archaeological excavations including the well preserved water supply system. Continue to Daliat El Carmel, a Druze village and enjoy a late lunch (own account). Proceed via Mount Carmel to Hafia for a panoramic view of the Hafia bay and the Golden domed Bahai shrine and gardens.

Drive to Safed, the center of Jewish mysticism, where you will visit the ancient synagogues and the artists’ colony. Continue to the Golan Heights to see the former Syrian bunkers, Kuneitra and the new Israeli town of Katzrin. Stop at the Golan winery for a tour and wine tasting. Proceed to Kessem Hagolan, a multimedia presentation of the area and its history.

After breakfast tour the ancient city of Tiberias, before visiting the ruins of the synagogue and octagonal church of St. Peter in Capernaum. Then, continue on to Nazareth to see the Church of the Annunciation. At Beit Alpha, view the remains of an ancient synagogue with is mosaic floor depicting the zodiac. Arrive at the end of the day in Jerusalem for a 5-night stay.

On Mt. Zion this morning, view the site of King David’s tomb and the Room of the Last Supper. Then enter Jerusalem’s walled city, walking through the Jewish Quarter to the Western Wall. Next visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, then, enjoy panoramic views from Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives. Later travel to Bethlehem to see Rachel’s tomb and the Church of the Nativity before returning to Jerusalem.

Today’s tour of Jerusalem’s new city includes a visit to the Hadassah Medical Center to view its ornate Chagall stained glass windows, the moving Holocaust memorial of Yad Vashem, and the fascinating Dead Sea Scrolls housed in the Shrine of the Book. In the afternoon, visit the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament Buildings and the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University.

This morning drive through the beautiful Judean desert passing the Dead Sea en route to Masada. First stop is at Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered before arriving at Masada. Here, take a cable car up to the ancient fortress and hear about its dramatic history. Before returning to Jerusalem, there will be a chance to float in the Dead Sea (time permitting).
