Western Turkey

Bordered by the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, Western Turkey is rich in Greek, Roman and Ottoman history that you will have the opportunity to explore during this 8-day tour. Every trip through Turkey must start with Istanbul, one of the world’s most exotic and exciting cities, filled with palaces, bazaars, markets and magnificent mosques. Then it’s on to the Gallipoli Peninsula to see where one of WWI’s most infamous battles took place before crossing the Dardanelles into Asia and travelling down the Aegean coastline. As you head south, there will be stops at some wondrous ancient ruins such Troy, Asclepion and Pergamum before arriving at Kusadasi, a popular Aegean seaside resort. From here you’ll have the chance to visit Ephesus, a truly massive Roman ruin with amazing mosaics, roman baths and its famous library. As well, there’ll be a visit to the burial sight of the Virgin Mary. Before the tour ends in the Mediterranean resort town of Marmaris, enjoy a trip inland to Pamukkale to see the roman hot springs at Hierapolis with their dramatic setting atop a limestone mountain. At the end of this journey, you may also wish to add on a trip by ferry to the nearby Greek island of Rhodes or take cruise along the Turkish coast.
