Thailand

+-Overview

The Kingdom of Thailand is an exotic land of golden temples, lush scenery and exquisite people. Thailand conjures up the images of elephants and orchids, of jade Buddha’s and jewel-encrusted pagodas, of colorful markets and endless, perfect beaches. Never colonized, Thailand or Siam as it was once known, has maintained a rich culture filled with history and tradition.

In Southeast Asia, all roads lead to Bangkok, the starting point of any journey through Thailand. Despite the hustle and bustle of this growing, modern metropolis, the city is filled with palaces and pagodas, and its canals (klongs) lead you to quiet, green-filled oases or lively floating markets.

Northern Thailand encompasses the walled-city of Chiang Mai with its superb temples and renowned handicrafts markets, and Chiang Rai, the jumping-off point for the fabled ‘Golden Triangle’ where the mountains are home to many different hill tribes, and where one can hike or travel by elephant from one village to the next.

No visit to Thailand would be complete without spending time at one of its many beach resort areas found south of Bangkok. From the deluxe resorts of Phuket, the ‘Pearl of the South’ to the laid-back ambience of Krabi or Ko Samui, each of these regions offers glorious beaches with a backdrop of verdant mountainous scenery.
