Overview of Zimbabwe

What can one really say about the majestic splendour of Victoria Falls, except that “seeing is believing”.  To stand on the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi River and watch hundreds of thousands of cubit meters of water plunge down 100 meters into the chasm below almost defies description.  Certainly the African name of Mosi-O-Tunya, the ‘Smoke That Thunders’ comes close to defining it.  It is truly awesome to watch rainbows dancing in the spray that leaps high into the air, drenching the surrounding rainforest in a fine mist.  Every day spent at the Falls, and you should plan to spend several of them here, is an adventure.  Not only can you walk along the paths and walkways to various viewing points watching out for birds, monkey and butterflies along the way, Victoria Falls is ‘adventure central’ where you can bungi jump, go whitewater rafting, take a sunset cruise along the mighty Zambezi River, go on a helicopter ride for a breath-taking, aerial view of the Falls, shop for souvenirs in the local markets famous for woven baskets and bead work, or even go game viewing where elephants, hippos and crocodiles linger on the quieter upper reaches of the river.  However you decide to spend your time at Victoria Falls, a lot of it will be spent just standing in awe of one of nature’s greatest wonders.
