OverviewConsidered one of the oldest countries in the Mediterranean, the various conquests of Tunisia were as productive as they were destructive, making Tunisia a vibrant multi-coloured country where the peace and quiet cannot hide a vital love of life. With its rich and vivid history it is the essence of both Oriental and Western civilizations, so near and yet so far.
At the heart of Tunisia’s Medinas music, perfume and colours intermingle. In the streets of even the remotest villages young girls go to school in jeans.
On the plains the Bedouin chants dance with the silence. In the streets, history whispers legends and fables in your ear. The archaeological sites take you on a tour of the Ancient world.
Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Carthaginians, Arabs, Andalucians, Turks, Italians… this succession of communities and cultures has left both their traces and their monuments, changes and retrievals…. to form what has become over the years, throughout history, Tunisian civilization.
