Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climb

This 7-day trek is the most direct and most popular of the Kilimanjaro routes up the eastern side of Kilimanjaro.  You follow a trail that is well defined and ‘climber friendly’ making your adventure a little easier. Departing from your hotel in Moshi in Northern Tanzania, and after a briefing and registering for the trek, the climb begins gradually.  The trail runs through rainforests and past waterfalls onto high moorland, where you trek amongst amazing giant plant life!  As each day passes, you trek through many different types of terrain; from Montane forests and heath land to the extraordinary alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape where you cross the great saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo.

A good level of comfort is provided en route as you bed down each night in solar-powered huts that have beds with pillows in communal dorms and where tasty meals are provided by camp staff.  The final steep push takes place on the morning of the fourth day, when you will stand, elated, on the Roof of Africa!  Upon successfully completing the climb, and once back at the Park gate, you will receive a summit certificate, an important memento of your incredible climbing adventure.

Arrival

On arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport we meet and transfer you to your hotel for the night before ascending Mount Kilimanjaro.  Relax and enjoy the hotel’s facilities.

+ - Day 2 Moshi › 6000ft › 9000ft

Leaving the hotel, enter the Park at Marangu Gate and take an easy hike through the rainforest to Mandara Hut (9000 ft). Before settling in for the night, take a brief walk to see views of Kenya and Northern Tanzania from the Maundi Crater.
Hiking time - 4 hours.

Today set off for walking through lower heath land covered in small shrubs.  Arrive by mid-afternoon Horombo Huts and have time to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Enjoy a photographic sunrise before hiking across the lunar-landscape of the vast saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Have an early night before tackling the summit. Hiking time - 7 hours

SUMMIT PEAK: The hike to the summit is carried out in the early morning hours before dawn so that you reach Uhuru Peak around sunrise. After celebrating your achievement, return to Kibo Huts and re-cross the saddle to spend the night back at Horombo Huts.
