OverviewNamibia is a land of startling contrasts where the roaring Atlantic Ocean meets the greatest sand dunes in Africa, where desert lions and elephants live in the dry terrain of Etosha National Park and where stark, lunar landscapes and unimaginable sunrises and sunsets will create incredible photographic memories. Starting in Johannesburg, travel through the semi-desert countryside of the western Transvaal to the dramatic Augrabies Falls before crossing into Namibia. Once inside Namibia, marvel at the beauty of Fish River Canyon, the second largest natural gorge in Africa and a spectacular natural phenomenon. As you travel northwards, discover very exotic scenery; from massive dolerite boulders to pre-historic forests before exploring the old, historic towns of Luderitz and Kolmanskop. In Windhoek, the country’s capital, enjoy a tour through this interesting city, founded by German settlers.
One of Southern Africa’s greatest wildlife parks is Etosha National Park. With its flat, open scrub and saltpans, it teems with game. Gameviewing in this vast park (over 22,000 sq. km) in air-conditioned vehicles, you will have the opportunity to see over 140 species of animals including Elephant, Giraffe, Blue Wildebeest, Black Rhino, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard as well as prolific bird life. Next head towards the Atlantic coast passing through several more fascinating towns surrounded by mountains to spend the remainder of the tour in the delightful sea-side town of Swakopmund. This Bavarian-styled resort will be your jumping off point for a whole host of wonderful excursions.
Any journey on a Shongololo train is an unforgettable adventure as you travel in comfort and each day take in the included excursions or decide between the many optional tour choices.
