OverviewNothing is more leisurely than boarding Rovos Rail’s luxurious ‘Pride of Africa’ and travelling through scenic countryside as you travel across South Africa. This 1600-kilometre journey is a perfect illustration of South Africa as a world in one country. Cape Town offers a blend of cosmopolitan city life, magnificent mountains and superlative wine lands, while the twin cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg form the economic heartland of South Africa and the ideal departure point for Mpumulanga’s world-famous Game Reserves. There are interesting stops en route to visit historic sites, in particular the great diamond mine at Kimberley. Comfortable accommodation and fine dining along with some of South Africa’s best wines makes this 2-day journey a highlight of any trip.

This morning board the Rovos Rail train and depart Cape Town on a journey to Pretoria. Enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery as you pass through South Africa’s premier wine-growing region and over the Hex River Pass via a series of dramatic tunnels. Late in the afternoon there will be a stop at Matjiesfontein where there will be time of a stroll through this quaint and historic village.

Day 2
Kimberley
Spend a relaxing morning travelling across the Great Karoo before arriving in Kimberley just after lunch. On arrival, you will disembark to be taken on a tour of the town and to see the ‘Big Hole’, where diamonds were first discovered in 1871. You will also visit the fascinating Mine Museum, and time and weather permitting take a ride through the town on an historic tram. Re-board the train in the afternoon. Just a few minutes beyond the town, keep an eye out for a small lake where you may see upwards of 23,000 flamingos!
The balance of the day is spent traveling through the open plains of the Orange Free State.

Day 3
Pretoria
This morning is the final leg of this memorable journey, passing through Krugersdorp, Johannesburg and Germiston. Arrive at noon in Pretoria and disembark.

The epitome of luxury, with handsome wood paneling and period Edwardian features, the air-conditioned suites accommodate two people offering the option of twin or spacious double beds. All are equipped with a writing surface and, for valuables, a personal safe. There is also a bar fridge filled with beverages of the passengers’ choice and room service is available 24 hours a day. In the en suite bathrooms original fittings combine with the modern technology of hot showers, hair dryers and shaver plugs.
The Pullman suite is +/-7 square meters (+/-76 sq ft) in size and while it includes the identical bathroom to that of the deluxe suites, the bedroom is smaller with a one up one down bunk for twin requirements or a double bed for couples. During the day this can be converted into a comfortable couch.

The Deluxe suites (+/-11 sq metres/+/-118 sq feet) and accommodates two passengers in either twin or double beds and have a lounge area and en-suite bathroom with shower.

In the en suite bathrooms original fittings combine with the modern technology of hot showers, hair dryers and shaver plugs.
The Royal Suites, each of which take up half a carriage, are spacious and elegant, measuring +/-16 sq metres in size (+/-172 sq ft). Each has its own private lounge area and full bathroom with Victorian bath and separate shower.
