Mozambique

+-Overview

Mozambique is a magnificent combination of African, Arab and Portuguese cultures that have blended to form a unique heritage making this a fascinating country to visit.  Situated along the Indian Ocean, it is a beach-lovers paradise where long, white ribbons of sand, shaded by graceful palm trees beckon and where some of Africa’s most exotic and romantic beach resorts can be found.  Colourful fishing villages dot the shoreline where you can buy wonderful fresh fish directly from the fishermen, and deep-sea fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving are popular pastimes along the country’s extensive coral reefs. No visit to Mozambique is complete without time spent exploring Maputo, its capital.  From its early Portuguese forts to the Museum of the Revolution that documents Mozambique war of independence, Maputo is all about its history, not to mention wonderful markets.  Also, nearby is the fascinating Maputo Elephant Reserve where you can have thrilling up-close photographic opportunities with the reserve’s many elephants.  It is also a bird-watchers Eden.  The country’s interior is a mixture of open, fertile plains and mountainous regions crossed by two of Africa’s iconic rivers the Limpopo and the mighty Zambezi.  The city of Beira, known as the heartland of Mozambique, is one of the oldest cities in Southern Africa and offers a contrast to other countries in the Southern African region, with it’s blend of African, Arab and Portuguese influences.
